Speculation has been swirling among Swifties in recent weeks, prompted last month when the singer posted a cryptic countdown on her website that was later taken down before it had the chance to be completed.
The countdown had been doused in the colour scheme of the Toy Story films, and the rumours clicked up a gear when a billboard bearing the initials ‘TS’ over a familiar blue sky and white cloud appeared in recent days. Fans noted that there were exactly 13 clouds on display, a nod to Swift’s famous lucky number, and Pixar later shared an image of the billboard on social media.
Now, Swift has officially announced that her new original song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ will appear in the film, which is released in cinemas on June 19. The single will be released on Friday (June 5), and you can pre-order it here .
> It’s a *Toy* Story You knew it! My new original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Disney and @Pixar ’s @toystory 5 will be yours on June 5th. “I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” Swift wrote. “I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”
Swift has written the song with Jack Antonoff and there will be three CD editions of the single, featuring the track as it appears in the film, as well as an acoustic version and a piano version.
Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton has said: “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story . So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”
The film will pick up after Woody left to stay with Bo Peep at the end of the last movie. Jessie is now the leader of Bonnie’s room, with Buzz Lightyear her second-in-command, but Bonnie is now enamoured with her new favourite toy, a frog-like tablet named Lilypad.
Bad Bunny is another music superstar involved in the project , after it was recently revealed that he will be the voice of a talking pizza slice, ‘Pizza With Sunglasses’, who is described as a forgotten toy living in an abandoned backyard shed.
Swift’s last album was 2025′ ‘ The Life of a Showgirl ‘, which was inspired by her experience on her record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour . It soon became the best-selling album of that year in the UK – making Swift the first artist to have the top seller in consecutive years for different albums since ABBA in 1977.
Since the album’s release, Swift has become the youngest female artist to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame , invited Graham Norton, Lewis Capaldi, and Cillian Murphy for her ‘Opalite’ music video , and filed to trademark her own voice and image after growing concerns about AI .
