The song, released today (Friday June 5), was written and produced by Swift and regular collaborator Jack Antonoff , with the lyrics coming from the perspective of Jessie, the cowgirl toy who has been part of the franchise since Toy Story 2 .
The Grammy-winning artist goes back to the country sound that made her name, singing a song with themes of love and reunion: “ I watched you drive around the bend for/ What I thought would be the last time I saw my friend/But love has ways of bringing things back to life”.
The track is out today, and can be heard below. Alternatively, the song can be found on various platforms here . Pre-orders are also available via Taylor Swift’s website for three special CD editions that feature the version of the song that appears in the film, an acoustic version, and a piano version.
On X (formerly Twitter), Swift discussed her personal connection with the beloved animated movies.
“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a five year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” she wrote. “I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”
