The Chicks unveil 20th Anniversary Tour for ‘Taking The Long Way’

Thirteen-time Grammy winning country pop trio The Chicks have announced a return to the road in celebration of the group’s seventh studio album, Taking The Long Way , with 16 U.S. dates from October to November in select markets.

The “Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour” kicks off Sept. 30 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and continues in markets and venues including the Auditorium in Chicago, The Anthem in Washington D.C., Beacon Theatre in New York, The Truth in Nashville, Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Bass Concert Hall in Austin, Benaroya Hall in SEattle, The Masonic in San Francisco and the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

An artist presale begins Wednesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. local time, to be followed by general onsale on Thursday, June 4, according to the announcement from promoter Live Nation, which promises “The Chicks will bring their powerhouse vocals and electrifying stage presence to intimate theatres across the U.S., honoring the enduring impact of the album that defined a generation, and celebrating the deep connection with their fans.”

The “Taking the Long Way Tour” is intended to serve as a triumphant victory lap to commemorate two decades of the critically acclaimed album that topped the Billboard 200 chart and earned The Chicks five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. It’s the album that followed backlash from singer Natalie Maines’ critical remarks of then-President George W. Bush, which led to widespread radio bans, boycotts and even CD-smashing rallies. The Chicks — then known as The Dixie Chicks before electing to change the outdated name in 2020 — defiantly returned and won over music critics and the industry with its courageous defiance and perseverance.

The “Long Way” tour adds to previously announced dates including California casino dates in June, opening dates for Tim McGraw’s stadium dates in July, and an appearance at Boots And Hearts Country Music Festival in Ontario, Canada.

The group is represented by CAA.
