World Music Institute will present The Healing Project Choir as part of its Sacred Sounds of Healing series on June 18 at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan.
The Healing Project is a New York City-based arts organization conceived in 2014 by composer, multidisciplinary artist, and activist Samora Pinderhughes. The organization collaborates with individuals impacted by structural violence to create artistic works, community-centered healing spaces, and advocacy initiatives focused on social and systemic change.
Founded and directed by Pinderhughes, The Healing Project Choir brings together singers and musicians who use collective singing and original music to explore themes of healing, community, and social transformation. The ensemble draws inspiration from traditions including Sweet Honey in the Rock, the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), and the Nueva Canción movement.
Pinderhughes is a composer, pianist, vocalist, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist whose work examines social and political issues through music, film, and performance. His projects frequently explore questions of justice, collective care, and personal transformation.
World Music Institute's Sacred Sounds of Healing series highlights artists, cross-cultural collaborations, and related events that explore the role of music and sound in spiritual and cultural traditions around the world. The series was created to promote healing, peace, joy, and community through music and is supported by Chandrika Tandon .
The performance will take place at Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South in Manhattan. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8:00 p.m. Advance tickets are $30, and day-of-show tickets are $35.
