The Tank's 2026 Pride Festival will launch with Tempest & The Black Madonna , a performance piece that blurs the boundaries between concert, poetry, testimony, and theatrical ritual. Created and led by playwright, poet, and performance artist Brent Thomas Whiteside , the work arrives at The Tank on Saturday, June 20 at 7:00 PM.

Described as "a myth masquerading as a band," Tempest & The Black Madonna transforms the stage into a temporary archive of Black queer memory, desire, grief, joy, and collective survival. Through original music, spoken word, storytelling, and live performance, the piece excavates personal and communal histories while imagining new futures.

Part band, part myth, part theatrical reckoning, Tempest & The Black Madonna gathers audiences for an evening that is both intimate and expansive-a meditation on what Black queer people inherit, preserve, and carry forward.

"This work lives somewhere between a concert and a séance," says lyricist and front person Brent Thomas Whiteside. "It asks what stories survive us, what happens when we gather to remember them, and what ghosts arrive when we do."

The performance features Leprd Print and Adonis on guitar

As one of the opening events of The Tank's annual Pride Festival, the performance sets the tone for a celebration of queer artistry, experimentation, and community.
