Treasure Island is a swashbuckling coming-of-age story, following the quest of the young Jim Hawkins to find and secure the hidden treasure of the infamous Captain Flint. Following a map given to him by the mysterious Billy Bones in his final moments, Jim is joined on his voyage by Dr Livesey, Squire Trelawney, and Captain Smollett. Aboard the Hispaniola, he soon befriends the ship's one-legged cook, Long John Silver- a rugged sailor hiding a dark secret. Mutiny, swordfights, and desert islands, as well as parrots, skeletons, and buried treasure make this production an epic journey through the golden age of piracy.

Treasure Island is based on the serialized story written by Robert Louis Stevenson between 1881 and 1882. It defined pirates as we know them today, introducing the wooden leg, shoulder-perched parrot, and a treasure map marked with an “X”. It has been adapted countless times for various media, and has become a beloved favorite for many the world over.

Director, Steve Smith , says of the production, “Treasure Island is a perfect show for an ambitious theatre school like ours. In only 4 weeks of rehearsal, our cast have built characters with unique voices, accents, and bold physical choices, plus learned some swashbuckling stage combat!” Assistant Student Stage Manager, Emma Wright, adds “Pirate shows have a special place in my heart due to their whimsical stories and blunt humor… Seeing the young student actors grow and develop through this production has brought me lots of joy!” The show runs approximately 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission, featuring heart-pounding adventure throughout. Additional production staff include Sound Designer, Natalia Demko; Stage Manager, Benedict Heaps; Lighting Designer, Liam Sullivan ; Isabella Podesta, Student Assistant Director.

The cast includes Pippa Diaz (Encinitas), Kiera Hewitt (Carlsbad), Koji Hinderliter (Hillcrest), Theodora Hoyle (Del Mar), Kaia Rae Minasian (Rancho Santa Fe), Gaby Neira (Carmel Valley), Alice Price (Carlsbad), Ruby Reid (Escondido), Maya Rosenberg (Del Mar), Nicole Sample (Encinitas), Harper Smith (Encinitas), Genvieve Tai (San Elijo Hills), Phoebe Thomas (San Marcos), and Maeve Zavattero (Carlsbad).

Performances are May 21st through May 24th on North Coast Repertory Theatre's MainStage: 987 Lomas Santa Fe Dr. Suite D, Solana Beach, CA 92075 with show times at 5:30pm May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, and 2pm April 23rd and 24th.
