The season will explore the theme of “Changing Generations” as we reflect on the rich history and exciting future of Theatrical Outfit. It’s a collision between classics and world premieres; major companies and emerging artists; national and local – TO is a meeting point between communities and ideas. The arts are ALIVE in ATL, and TO is ecstatic to be at the center of it all.
“Reaching 50 years is an extraordinary milestone and it belongs to every artist, staff member, board member, and audience member who has been part of this journey,” says TO’s Managing Director, Vanya Foote. “Throughout the past five decades, Theatrical Outfit has always been about people and this city we call home — coming together to share stories and experiences. As we look ahead, our focus is on honoring that legacy while continuing to grow, evolve, and serve our community in deeper and more meaningful ways. TO has spent decades building a foundation of artistic excellence and community trust and partnership. Now, we’re focused on expanding that impact: supporting new work, becoming a true home for artists, broadening access to the arts, and ensuring that live theatre remains an essential and thriving part of Atlanta’s future.”
Opening the Mainstage Season will be August Wilson ’s FENCES – a co-production with Dominion Entertainment Group & Alabama Shakespeare Festival . The holiday season will bring ALL IS CALM: The Christmas Truce of 1914 by Peter Rothstein with Musical Arrangements by Erick Lichte & Timothy C. Takach – a co-production with The Atlanta Opera. In 2027, two modern pieces – WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME by Heidi Schreck and THE CHILDREN by Lucy Kirkwood . Then concluding the yearlong celebration will be DEATH OF A SALESMAN by Arthur Miller Beautifully written and endlessly surprising, this poignant story of the perilously high cost of the American Dream reveals new truths to every generation of audiences.
In addition to the Mainstage Season, TO will look to the next generation of new plays with MADE IN ATLANTA. This program will feature the return of LAUNCHPAD 3.0 (July 2027). Following its highly successful launch in 2025, this innovative festival will once again feature 4 World Premieres running in rep to form a one-of-a-kind experience. Plus, August 2026 will see MR. COOL from LAUNCHPAD 1.0 return for a special limited engagement.
Lastly, the theatre's next commission following the record shattering, Young John Lewis . Addae Moon – alongside a very special guest artist to be announced soon – will create a brand-new, punk rock version of ANTIGONE – a 3-year development project based on classic text by Sophocles. More information on all MADE IN ATLANTA events will be announced soon.
September 16 - October 4, 2026 - THREE WEEK LIMITED ENGAGEMENT In 1950s Pittsburgh, Troy Maxson built fences to protect his family. But what happens when those walls keep dreams out? This American classic is an explosively funny and heartbreaking portrait of an American family, following a former Negro League baseball star as his dreams collide with his son's aspirations.
December 2 - 27, 2026 Set during World War I, ALL IS CALM: The Christmas Truce of 1914 tells the true story of enemy soldiers along the Western Front laying down their weapons and sharing a brief, remarkable moment of peace. Drawn from soldiers’ letters, diaries, and songs, the work traces the daily realities of trench warfare while revealing the humanity that endured on both sides of the conflict.
February 24 – March 21, 2027 The Tony Award nominated WHAT THE CONSTITUTION MEANS TO ME makes its Atlanta premiere! Playwright Heidi Schreck 's boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, Heidi resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives … that has shaped all our lives.
May 19 – June 13 In their remote cottage on the British coast, a long-married pair of retired nuclear physicists live a modest life in the aftermath of a natural disaster. When a former colleague reappears after 38 years, her presence upends the couple’s equilibrium and trust. A hit in London and New York, Lucy Kirkwood ’s THE CHILDREN is a taut and deeply funny thriller about responsibility and reparation — what one generation owes the next.
September 8 - October 3, 2027 A Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner that is one of the most profound classic dramas of the American theater. Willy Loman desperately craves success for himself and his sons, but stark reality cannot live up to his dreams. The wall of delusions he has constructed quietly crumbles around him while a devastated and demoralized man searches in vain for a hidden path to greatness. Beautifully written and endlessly surprising, this poignant story of the perilously high cost of the American Dream reveals new truths to every generation of audiences.
July 2027 LAUNCHPAD: A “MADE IN ATLANTA” FESTIVAL – an exciting way to empower a new generation of theatre artists with the space, resources, development, and institutional support to create visceral, compact, innovative, and portable performance pieces than can be replicated in ANY space in Atlanta, GA, the nation, or even across the globe – returns! Just like the first two years, four World Premieres will run in rep to create one groundbreaking new works festival.
A “MADE IN ATLANTA” COMMISSION TO is thrilled to share its next commission following the record shattering Young John Lewis .
