Tierra Whack Prepares for Juneteenth Release of “Whack’s Museum” and Lead Single “Wax Paper”

This week Tierra Whack announced plans to release a new full-length project called (Whack's Museum) on Juneteenth. She's calling it a "rap mixtape," and with the release of lead single "Wax Paper" today, she's shed some light about what that might entail. Basically, it means what it sounds like it means.

Whack is known for her genre-jumping versatility, innovative formats like her collection of one-minute songs on Whack World , and the quirky sensibility she brings to both her visuals and her vocal delivery. All of that can easily obscure her talent as a pure emcee. But "Wax Paper" is a hard-nosed street-rap track that shows off Whack's ability to really rap. Over grimy Conductor Williams production, she gets off bars like "Time to face the harsh truth, you all spoof/ Acting bad but this is not Zeus/ Sharper than a shark tooth/ Whack God, I'm Doc Seuss/ They say that I'm uptight/ That just means I'm not loose/ I got proof." And that's before we get to the part about running for president in Asics.

The "Wax Paper" video was directed by Child in Whacks's native Philadelphia. The director says he tried to mirror the song's '90s sound with a '90s-vintage visuals:
