Tom Morello Releases Politically Charged Single "Adjourn It" With Serj Tankian

Tom Morello has unveiled a new single titled “Adjourn It” featuring his son Roman Morello and System of a Down’s Serj Tankian .

The single is a taste from his upcoming solo album via Mom + Pop Records, and is inspired by recent protests against ICE in both Minneapolis and New York City.

“Adjourn It” mixes a classic Rage Against the Machine style rap metal chorus featuring Tankian, verses that are slinky and dark like classic Bob Dylan, and even a classic thrash metal bridge before closing with a monumental guitar solo from Roman. It also sports a music video that features footage from the independent film Salt of the Earth from 1954 about Mexican-American zinc miner strikes, in keeping with the direct and highly political tone.

Tom Morello stated, “At this historical juncture every act of art is an act of resistance and ‘Adjourn It,’ a collaboration with long time friend Serj Tankian and my 15 year old guitar wiz son Roman Morello, is a clarion call for justice in unjust times. Produced by Zakk Cervini (Bring Me the Horizon, Yungblud, Aerosmith) this latest tune from my upcoming solo album combines multi-generational Morello bulldozer riffs with the great Serj Tankian’s prophetic wailings. Inspired by the persecution of immigrants across the land and the heroic resistance to the rising tide of fascism, it’s just about damn time to rock for freedom, justice and equality.”

Serj Tankian added, “‘Adjourn It’ is a protest anthem against the continued barbarism leveled by ICE in the U.S., separating families, racial profiling, and in some cases killing. As a democracy we should be offended that our own government has done this to our brothers and sisters trying to provide a decent lifestyle for their families. There is smart immigration and naturalization policy then there is this. Most of these cases would be adjourned by judges if given due legal process. Adjourn it!”

Tom Morello recently announced the Power to the People festival , which will feature performances from Serj Tankian, Bruce Springsteen, Public Enemy, Dropkick Murphys, Dave Matthews, Killer Mike, the Linda Lindas and more, and will be held on October 3rd in Columbia, Maryland. Get tickets here .
