We all know how much hard work goes into the performances that audiences see eight times a week on Broadway. When they're not giving it their all onstage, most performers are backstage doing what it takes to stay happy, healthy, and ready to go between scenes. In Words From The Wings, BroadwayWorld is taking fans behind the curtain to shine a spotlight on the everyday routines that keep Broadway stars moving.
In this edition, we catch up with Tracee Chimo , who plays Saunders in the Broadway production of Fallen Angels. Below, she takes us backstage at the Todd Haimes Theatre (with photos by Jennifer Broski ) to share some of her favorite backstage moments, must-haves, and more!

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive to the theatre?
PEE! I come in from Queens and always have to run to the bathroom after my train ride.
What’s the last thing you do before you go on stage?
Say “good show” to Dora our ASM and Rachel my dresser. Then I check in with Hilda, the beautiful plus size pinup model I asked the props team to add to Saunders’ kitchen. Hilda and Saunders are basically the same person. Look her up…Hilda the plus size pinup by Duane Bryers.
What’s your must-have backstage snack?
Walnuts! And Purely Elizabeth granola.
Pre-show ritual that others may think is weird?
Well, I have OCD and have to make sure my street shoes are touching before I leave the dressing room.
What are five must-haves in your dressing room?
Face spray by Mario Badescu (Rose scented), a knee brace (I have arthritis from past injuries), a cozy Snoopy blanket from home, mouthwash, and framed pictures of my children and husband!
What’s your favorite moment from the show to watch from the wings?
Rosie doing her drunken dance to the telephone ringing.
What has been your favorite backstage moment in your time with this show so far?
Literally every moment I’ve ever had backstage with Chris Fitzgerald has been my favorite because he makes me laugh so much. And every moment I have with Richard our brilliant Wig Master because he has the BEST stories from his long career.
