Yesterday, at the Summer Game Fest in LA , SEGA of America and RGG Studio revealed new additions to their forthcoming action-adventure game Stranger Than Heaven , including rap legend Tupac Shakur. At the event, RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama announced the game's official release date: January 15, 2027.
Later, Snoop Dogg and his son Cordell Broadus also made an appearance, as both will portray characters in the game. Snoop is also working on the official theme song alongside Satoshi Fujihara, Ado, and Tori Kelly, all of whom will also portray game characters. The cast also includes actors Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, Takaya Kuroda, and Kohei Tsuji.
Shakur's character is named Amaru, which is fitting since the use of his likeness, based on archival footage and photographs, was made possible with permission from his estate, Amaru Entertainment. RGG Studio stressed that no AI was involved in the creation process and that the team wanted to respect his legacy.
This is not the first time Tupac has been brought back to life via impressive technology: in 2012, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg featured a pricey Tupac hologram during their headline Coachella performance, with the rapper appearing alongside them onstage.
The crime thriller looks pretty sick based on the trailer previews shown so far. The game spans fifty years and is, according to the SEGA summary, the "saga of men with nowhere to go and their desperate struggle to find a home." Players use "extreme violence to survive, and musical talent to thrive as a showman across five cities and eras of modern Japan."
