Weezer Announces "The Gold Album" Featuring Karly Hartzman, Out August 21
Weezer has announced "The Gold Album," an upcoming project featuring Karly Hartzman of Wednesday, set for release on August 21st via Reprise/Warner Records. The band also revealed the lead single from the album.

Weezer have announced their latest self-titled album, due out August 21st via Reprise/Warner Records. Unofficially dubbed The Gold Album , it’s led by the lead single, “We Might As Well Be Strangers,” featuring Rivers Cuomo and co. collaborating with Wednesday ’s Karly Hartzman. Stream it below.
Serving as their 16th studio album and 20th overall, Weezer came out of the back-to-basics sessions with all four members of the group — Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner — at their rehearsal space. This led Cuomo and Wilson to write the “basics of a song” for the first time since their debut album, according to a press release.

Co-producers Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume (fka Kenny Beats) took different approaches to the album, with Blume explaining in a statement that he wanted to make “the most violent Weezer album ever,” while Åhlund took a more mathematical approach. The drums were recorded with all four members of the group playing live.

On “We Might As Well Be Strangers,” Cuomo and Hartzman’s vocals blend quite nicely as they describe people growing apart. “Every night’s your birthday/ Got shows back-to-back,” Hartzman sings. “And on the burner, crack in the skull/ Is it still hedonism if you’re feeling miserable/ Don’t want your songs to become the clues to how we lost you.”
Weezer also includes the April single “Shine Again,” which marked the band’s first new song since 2022. Their last album, the metal-tinged Van Weezer , was released in 2021. The group followed with their four-part SZNZ EP series in 2022.
In September, Weezer will head out on “Weezer: The Gathering,” a 32-date arena run with The Shins and Silversun Pickups as support. Tickets can be purchased here .
Meanwhile, CoSign alums Wednesday are set to continue supporting last year’s Bleeds . They will resume touring the US (get tickets here ) in June and July before heading to Europe and the UK (get tickets here ) for the following two months.
