‘What We Do In the Shadows’ Film Sequel, 'We're Wolves', Expected Soon

The long-awaited movie sequel to What We Do In The Shadows looks to be moving ahead, according to creator Jemaine Clement.

The 2014 comedy mockumentary followed a group of vampires living together in the New Zealand suburbs, with the success of the film leading to a US series of the same name which ran for six seasons between 2019 and 2024.

A sequel, titled We’re Wolves and focusing on werewolves, has been discussed ever since the first film came out, but Clement reveals the project is still being planned for the big screen, and that he’s working alongside original co-writer and star Taika Waititi .

“We’re writing it, actually. We started writing” he told Collider. “For a long time, we were just talking about it. Now, we’ve started it. Very recently.” He also said that they are undecided whether the story, which picks up with a group of werewolves seen in the first film, should be improvisational like the movie, or scripted like the TV show.

“The question we have with the We’re Wolves movie… Have you seen the movie, What We Do In The Shadows ? We did them in different ways,” he said. “The movie is a 100 per cent improvised dialogue to a storyline, and the TV show’s very much scripted with occasional improv, so they’re quite different to make.”

He continued: “Now we have to decide, ‘Are we going to script this one or are we going to do improv like the first one, or scripted like the show?’ It’s quite good to have the control of the shot. It’s really fun just making it up on the fly.”

Last year, an episode of the What We Do In The Shadows TV show that featured Star Wars legend Mark Hamill was included in a Reddit discussion about the funniest single episodes of TV ever made.
