Wild Pink Announce New Album 'Still Coming Down', Share First Single

Wild Pink have announced a new album, Still Coming Down, and shared the first single, “Round of Applause at the End of the World.” The new collection of songs is set to be released on August 21st on Fire Talk Records.

Still Coming Down was recorded in one week at Drop of Sun studios of Asheville, North Carolina, with the help of producer and engineer Alex Farrar. MJ Lenderman and Meg Duffy of Hand Habits appear on tracks, as does Xandy Chelmis of Wednesday, who provided pedal steel on “Round of Applause at the End of the World.”

John Ross, frontman of Wild Pink, battled and beat cancer and became a father in the build-up to the new album, according to a press release, giving him a new perspective and helping create what promises to be “a genuine rock record.”

In a statement, Ross added, “Strangely, I feel like I’ve found my voice on this record.”

Wild Pink have added a string of September and October dates across the UK, Europe, and the US to complement their upcoming fall tour with Shaky Graves. Tickets for the new dates go on sale Friday, May 29th at 10:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster .

On “Round of Applause at the End of the World,” Wild Pink blend acoustic instruments with heavy electric guitars and a steady backbeat to create a song that feels like Bruce Springsteen at his most anthemic and historical. The song is built around a simple, catchy melody and chords that elicit pathos.

Ross sings from a paranoid and conspiracy-minded narrator’s perspective, contemplating the assassination of John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy. The narrator keeps coming back to a central phrase that is the heart of the terse lyrics: “I don’t know what my idea of fun is anymore.”

Wild Pink released the single with a video, helmed by Wes Sterrs, that features Ross as the protagonist, tearing up a motel room in a fit of paranoia. The video is the first chapter of four following the narrator as he uncovers a conspiracy theory which proves to be true, according to the press release.

Still Coming Down follows 2024’s Dulling the Horns , which prompted Consequence to declare Wild Pink “as one of the most quietly consistent, compelling, and emotionally intelligent acts in indie rock.”
