Written by Izaak Hamilton-New and directed by Michelle Allen, the comedy follows two young boys growing up in the 1970s whose pursuit of their childhood dreams takes an unexpected turn when they become involved in a murder investigation beyond anything they imagined.
Combining coming-of-age storytelling, crime comedy, and pop culture references, the production explores friendship, ambition, and masculinity through a fast-paced adventure inspired by the films and television of the era.
The cast includes Ben Phuare, Abbie Kidd, Chris Agha, and writer Izaak Hamilton-New.
The play was nominated for a Best of Camden Fringe ETTIE Award in 2025 and follows multiple previous runs in London. After debuting at the Drayton Arms Theatre, the production returned for a further engagement at Camden Fringe before being selected for an Edinburgh Festival Fringe run.
Founded in 2024 by Hamilton-New and Allen, Beautiful Death Theatre Company was created to develop and produce original work. The company's first production, BIGMOUTH , received a sold-out run at the Courtyard Theatre during Camden Fringe.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT explores themes of toxic masculinity, friendship, and self-discovery while paying tribute to the entertainment and popular culture of the 1970s. Through comedy, movement, and genre-blending storytelling, the production follows two friends navigating both the challenges of growing up and the unexpected consequences of becoming involved in a criminal mystery.
