Anya Taylor-Joy Cast as Elf in New Lord of the Rings Film ‘The Hunt for Gollum’

Anya Taylor-Joy has been cast in new Lord Of The Rings film, The Hunt For Gollum .

Directed by Andy Serkis, the new film is set before Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring , and feature many previous stars from Peter Jackson’s previous films. Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf, alongside Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, Lee Pace as King Thranduil, and Serkis himself as Gollum.

In addition, Kate Winslet has been cast as a new character named Marigol , while J amie Dornan replaces Viggo Mortensen as ‘Strider’ aka Aragorn .

Anya Taylor-Joy has now been added to the list of newcomers as Seren, an elf character who, per Variety , is described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil.” The official Lord Of The Rings account announced her casting on Instagram, writing “Welcome to the hunt”. The film is released in cinemas December 17, 2027.

Taylor-Joy is best known for films such as Furiosa , The Menu , and The Witch , as well as TV hits The Queen’s Gambit and Peaky Blinders . She played Princess Peach in recent release Super Mario Galaxy Movie , which is currently the most successful film of the year at the worldwide box office.

The star is also rumoured to be playing Joni Mitchell in a forthcoming biopic, and in March was faced with a bizarre question asking her to explain the parallels between the artist and Princess Peach. “You’re rumoured to be playing Joni Mitchell, speaking of through lines,” host Craig Melvin asked on The Today Show . “One of the, arguably, most singularly important women in music over the last generation or so. Princess Peach, one of the most iconic women in gaming history. What’s the connection there?”

After pausing for a moment, Taylor-Joy responded: “They’re both singular; you can’t touch them. They’re in a league of their own.”

In a recent interview, the actor shared that she felt her character in Peaky Blinders , villain Gina Grey, was the “worst” character she has ever played .
