Cameron Winter of Geese Confirms New Solo Project Underway

Cameron Winter , frontman of former CoSigns and definitely not psyops Geese , has confirmed he’s working on a new solo album. But, as he told Rolling Stone in a new interview, “it’s hard” figuring out what it will actually sound like.

“I used to write songs with interesting, difficult almost, chords in them, and now it’s like I-IV-V until the cows come home,” Winter said. “It’s actually getting worse and worse. It’s like the fucking rut is getting deeper and deeper, because then I do a ii chord, and I’m just like, ‘Ew. What are you, fucking Keith Jarrett, you piece of shit?’”

The fear of pretension stems from things like Geese’s SNL performance , which was met with esteem from “music-nerd people” and confusion from casual late-night viewers. “It’s not like I wanted to play a fucking song in a weird time signature that’s really loud and repetitive, and then just be like, ‘Ha, ha, you don’t get it like we do,'” Winter said. “That’s stupid. But a lot of what we do gets seen as that. I don’t know how to fix that.”

As such, he’s not sure if some of the ballads he’s played at recent solo shows will make the follow-up to Heavy Metal , his 2024 solo debut that was such a sleeper it ended up on our Best Albums of 2025 list. That includes material he performed during his December 2025 Carnegie Hall concert, which will be part of a live album release on October 9th and a Paul Thomas Anderson-directed concert film touring this winter, but may not get studio versions for the next project.

“People give me so much credit. I can fuck it up and they’re just like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah!'” he explained of balancing public response with his artistic impulses. “It intrudes. You’ll be able to hear that on track four with this new project. Just go to the 45-second mark and listen very closely, and you’ll hear all the funny business getting in the way.”

Geese drummer Max Bassin hasn’t heard Winter’s latest solo stuff, but knows he’s “working really fucking hard on it right now.” And as for the band’s own follow-up to their smash Getting Killed , they’re not sure if what they’ve recorded so far with producer Kenneth Blume (fka Kenny Beats) will be heard either. Bassin dubbed them “very high-quality demos of ideas,” adding, “They could all come out at some point, but I don’t anticipate that… We were sort of just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what stuck.”

While Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall will have touring screenings from November ’26 through January ’27, Geese will be playing concerts throughout the fall. Get tickets here
