The film maker has burst onto the Hollywood scene with his first feature, the story of a man who makes a wish for his crush to be in love with him, only for the result to have deadly consequences. The movie has made over $287million (£213million) worldwide from a $750,000 (£558,800) budget, breaking records for studio Focus Features and announcing Barker as the next big name in horror.

The film came about due to Barker’s success making horror short films on YouTube, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , he talked about some of his most popular shorts being adapted into a feature length movies.

“ The Chair could definitely be a horror film,” he said. “I think eventually it would be cool to bring a feature version of the haunted chair story to life. Milk And Serial [about a serial killer with a YouTube prank channel] is probably going to happen [as a film]. I wonder if there’s an opportunity to bring somebody else onto Milk And Serial and I’ll produce but not necessarily direct.”

The Chair has over 10million views on the YouTube channel that’s a bad idea , while Milk And Serial has 3.2million views.

Barker’s next move has been the subject of much speculation ever since Obsession became a hit, and recently he suggested the movie could be continued through an anthology series rather than a direct movie sequel.

“What really is exciting to me is maybe an anthology,” he said at a Q&A for the movie. “Like a one hour episode. Each episode is a different wish that goes completely off the rails. Maybe I’ll direct the pilot with the same DP [Director of Photography] and then you could invite other film makers to kind of give their spin at it, and that would be really cool.”

At the same event, he admitted the film has a plot hole that “makes no sense”, even to him.
