Deftones' Long-Shelved Album 'Eros' Reportedly Leaked Online

Deftones ’ shelved album Eros , recorded in 2008, apparently briefly leaked online early Monday morning, causing a stir among the band’s fans on Reddit and other message boards.

As ThePRP first reported, eleven songs purportedly from the album, including the previously released “Smile,” found their way onto the internet. However, it was only a matter of hours before they were taken down.

Deftones began recording Eros in April 2008, just months before bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a horrific car crash that left him in a coma for several years before he passed away in 2013. Following Cheng’s accident, the band decided to shelve the Eros sessions in favor of recording a completely different album, which turned out to be 2010’s Diamond Eyes .

On Reddit, fans were conflicted about the recordings , with some noting that they should respect the band’s wishes and not listen to the leaks. Others countered that it gave them “closure” to finally hear the tracks on an album that has taken on mythical proportions.

Deftones singer Chino Moreno has noted that most of the songs were largely unfinished , telling The Guardian last year, “It will most likely never see the light of day. That would involve going back to that period and resurrecting unfinished things, and somehow bringing them to completion. ‘Dallas‘ is the only song that was anywhere near finished.”

In addition to the 11 tracks that supposedly make up Eros , ThePRP also noted that an unreleased track titled “Sensations” recorded during the sessions for 2020’s Ohms also leaked online.

Last year, Deftones released private music , their 10th studio album (not including Eros ). They will embark on a UK/European tour in August ( pick up tickets here ), and return to the States for the Sick New World festival in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 24th.
