The original Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64 and is still regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time. A remake followed in 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS and later this year, Switch 2 owners will be able to play a reimagined version of the game.

Yesterday (June 9) Nintendo confirmed The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake was happening at the end of their bumper June Direct. The game will launch at some point this year for the Switch 2 and, based on the teaser trailer, will be a completely rebuilt take of the classic. Very little gameplay footage was shown in the trailer, but Nintendo describes the project as “a legend, reborn”.

“Such a tease! But it looks like it’s a full scale total remake and not simply another graphical update so I’m excited,” wrote one fan. “I’m optimistic that Nintendo knows how important Ocarina Of Time is and they are doing it right, like a total reimagining ‘if OoT were made today, familiar but different’ kind of situation. It’s a total system seller if so,” added another. “Playing through Ocarina again is going to hit so differently now that I’m a grown ass adult,” said a third.

Other fans are hoping that the end of Ocarina Of Time will tease a remake of dark sequel Majora’s Mask . “It won’t happen, but the coolest thing they could do with Ocarina Of Time is have it continue straight into Majora’s Mask without telling ANYONE until players discover it. Link leaves the castle, retrieves Epona, and heads to the Lost Woods. Skull Kid, Tatl, and Tael follow…,” wrote one X user.

“Imagine finishing Ocarina Of Time Remake . The credits end. The screen fades to black. And then Link appears riding with Epona through the forest… The camera pulls back. The sound of a mask is heard. Cut to black. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask . It would be, without exaggeration, one of the best sequel announcements we’ve ever seen,” added another.

The project was first reported earlier this year , and comes ahead of  the live-action Zelda movie  which will hit cinemas in 2027.
