Jim Carrey May Reprise Grinch Role in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Sequel, Ron Howard to Direct
A new report indicates Jim Carrey is in discussions to return for a sequel to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," with Ron Howard also expected to direct the follow-up film.

Because apparently there were narrative arcs yet to be explored in the story of a Grinch who chooses to steal holidays, Universal and Imagine Entertainment are now hard at work developing a sequel to Ron Howard ‘s 2000 live-action movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas . According to The Hollywood Reporter , Howard will return to direct, and Jim Carrey is in talks to once again be transformed into the green giver of grief.
The script for the sequel is set to be written by Curb Your Enthusiasm alumni Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, and David Mandel (who also wrote 2003’s The Cat in the Hat ), though no details about the plot are available at this time.
Carrey’s interest in returning to the role is a bit surprising, given that the comedy star nearly quit the first movie because he found the experience of wearing the elaborate makeup to be literally torture . He did recently reveal that he’d be open to returning to another green character, though, presuming the idea for a sequel to The Mask was the right one.
