Jon Glaser on His New Comedy Special, Adult Swim, and More

“I’ve made a career, for the most part, playing assholes or asshole-type characters, and it really became this thing to me about the existential pondering of like, ‘Well, why am I so good at this? Am I an asshole and I don’t realize it?’”

These are the questions Jon Glaser , very much not an asshole but who is great at playing one, grapples with and has fun with out on his new Substack, Asshole and the City . Some of the assholes he’s brought to life: Jeremy Jam on Parks and Recreation , and the various versions of himself he’s played cut comedy series Delocated, Jon Glaser Loves Gear and Neon Joe: Werewolf Hunter . “To me it’s just setting out to prove that I’m not an asshole through a bunch of short stories and anecdotes and whatnot.”

In addition to his Substack, Jon has also announced his first comedy special, Jon Glaser Live at the Bell House” which happens at Brookyn’s Bell House on July 18 and if you can’t make it to the show, it will live-stream on VEEPS that night at 7PM and also be available on-demand after that.

What to expect from the special? “ It’s a stand-up special but ‘m not a traditional stand-up, and so if you’ve seen my stuff, you at least know it’s not gonna be straight-ahead stand-up,” Jon says, trying not to give too much away. “There’s gonna be other people involved. Scott Adsit is doing this big cameo in it, and he’s an old, good friend.”
