Kasabian Achieves Eighth UK No. 1 Album with 'Act III'

Kasabian has emerged as the victor of this week’s top spot on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart (dated Sept. 11), earning its eighth No. 1 LP with Act III .

The Leicester band beat competition from Adéla and President to hit the summit, joining a ranking of artists including Oasis , Led Zeppelin, R.E.M., The Killers and Westlife in securing eight U.K. No. 1 albums, as per data from the Official Charts Company .

In a statement, frontman Serge Pizzorno said: “I started making beats at 12 and writing songs at 15. All I ever wanted was to make and release just one album. I’d have taken that and been happy for the rest of my life. To have now written nine albums, and for our ninth album, Act III , to become our eighth consecutive No. 1, is beyond anything we could have ever dreamed of.”

The chart-topper arrives shortly after a busy summer for Kasabian, who headlined Leeds Festival’s inaugural Thursday night slot in August. The band has also announced a U.K. arena tour for December, including dates in Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff, London and Manchester.

Adéla lands close behind, with the Slovakian’s debut record Prima taking the runner-up spot at No. 2, followed by Olivia Rodrigo’s you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love at No. 3. Michael Jackson’s The Essential compilation remains at No. 4.

Mysterious masked act President comes in at No. 5 with its maiden project, Blood of Your Empire . Jamie Webster, meanwhile, secures a fourth consecutive top 10 record with Running Round coming in at No. 10.

Ellie Goulding’s I Know Too Much lands at No. 16, while legendary pop act Dexys Midnight Runners earns its eighth U.K. top 20 with Love finishing at No. 20.

Further down the chart, Natalie Imbruglia’s first LP in five years, Algorithm , arrives at No. 22, while British pop songwriter Paris Paloma secures her first placement on the chart with second LP, The Fatal Flaw (No. 30).

There is a return to the chart for Beyoncé’s second studio album, B’Day , thanks to a 20th anniversary reissue of the record (No. 31). Bon Jovi’s Greatest Hits – The Ultimate Collection greets the top 40 once again (No. 38) following the band’s huge shows as part of The Forever Tour at Wembley Stadium Sept. 4-9.

Finally, with their electrifying documentary film Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger now in cinemas across the globe, the Gallagher brothers see uplift for both Time Flies…(1994-2009) (No. 15) and (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? (No. 24).
