Kelela Previews Album ‘new avatar’ With New Single “linknb”

Kelela has announced her third studio album, new avatar , will be released July 10th via Warp Records. As the latest preview, she also unveiled the second single, “linknb,” alongside a video. Stream it below.

In a press release, new avatar is described as “where everything Kelela has been building toward comes into focus,” with R&B filtered through distorted guitar and the end result of sound influenced by “everywhere she has ever lived musically.”

“This album finds solace in confronting,” Kelela added in a statement. “I don’t want the music to be a distraction from what’s really going on in the world; I want it to make sense in this crazy moment while helping people get in touch with the beauty and joy they’re also experiencing.”

The latest single, produced by Oscar Scheller, began as a “mantra” Kelela wrote to pull herself out of writer’s block and is about “confidence earned through difficulty, about refusing to shrink.”

Over a winding guitar riff and brisk drums, Kelela sings, “It’s not hard to be brave/ Easier to give too much away/ All I know is that I paved the way, underpaid.”

The newly unveiled song follows the release of “idea 1,” which made Consequence ’s staff picks for best songs of the week in early April for its refreshing spin on her style, gauzy atmosphere, and complex emotion punctuated by electric guitar.

A premier crafter of electronic music, Consequence named her live album In the Blue Light one of the best of February 2025 . She also earned a spot in Consequence ’s 50 best albums of 2023 for her sophomore effort, Raven .
