Hunter College will present a reading of ON A SMALL STRIP OF LAND ON THE GREAT SOUTH BAY by Kev Berry at Hunter College.
ON A SMALL STRIP OF LAND ON THE GREAT SOUTH BAY is an ambitious, experimental work about the Long Island Serial Killer case which unearths the complex story of police corruption, sensationalized violence, and the broken dreams of the women discarded along Ocean Parkway.
The reading will be directed by Mike Donahue and will feature Nic Ashe, Jeff Biehl , Katherine Harrington, Rachel Horwitz, Brooke Ishibashi , David Mattar Merten , Mallory Portnoy , Levi Shrader, Richard Toth , and Nina White .
The reading will take place on May 11 at 3pm, at Hunter College's Loewe Theater, located at 119 E 68th Street, NY. Ticket reservations can be made at the Hunter College MFA Playwrights Festival website.
Kev Berry is a New York-based playwright, performer and public health worker. He makes plays that look at justice, power, and connection in working class and queer communities across the Northeastern United States. His work, both as a writer and a performer, has been seen at The Tank, Joe's Pub, Feinstein's/54 Below, The Green Room 42, 3-Legged Dog , Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Judson Memorial Church, HERE Arts Center, New York Live Arts, the New Ohio Theatre, The Duplex , the Dramatists Guild Foundation , Dixon Place, The Brick Theater, Access Theater, Littlefield, The 9 Studios, Otto's Shrunken Head, The Cobra Club, Skidmore College, and across the harsh North Country of upstate New York. His play ROUGH TRADE has the highest attendance of any show in The Tank's history, playing to 16 sold-out houses in March and April 2023. He's been a finalist and semifinalist for a bunch of residencies and fellowships and received a bunch of grants to pay himself and other artists.
Mike Donahue recently directed the off-Broadway comedy MESSY WHITE GAYS at The Duke and worked with comic Sam Jay on her show WE THE PEOPLE at LCT3 as part of their inaugural comedy series with Studio Seaview. His production of CYRANO (starring Chukwudi Iwuji and Rosa Salazar ) opened to rave reviews at Pasadena Playhouse, opening the theatre's 100th season. Mike recently directed the world premiere of HIGHWAY PATROL at The Goodman Theatre /Chicago, co-created with Jen Silverman , Dane Laffrey and Dana Delany . NYC credits include: world premieres of Matthew Lopez 's THE LEGEND OF GEORGIA MCBRIDE (MCC, Geffen Playhouse, Denver Center; Joe A. Mike's first short film, Troy, premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and has gone on to screen at another 60 festivals internationally, including the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. It has won over a dozen awards, including the Oscar-qualifying Jury Award for Best Comedy at Aspen Shortfest, the Audience Award for Best Narrative Short at Outfest 2022 and the Vimeo 'Unofficial Award' for Best US Narrative Short at Sundance, and was acquired by The New Yorker. Mike and writer Jen Silverman are currently working on their first feature, with Pacific Electric producing.
