Kevin Morby jokes his Brooklyn Steel show helped Knicks win Game 4

“All the people writing me and apologizing that you’re no longer coming to my show in Brooklyn tomorrow,” Kevin Morby wrote in his instagram stories on Wednesday afternoon, “I want you to know that if you don’t come then the Knicks will lose. But if you DO come, they will win. I am, obviously, a good luck charm. It’s up to you.” A little bit later he added, “Also we will play at 9 PM. We will be done before the 4th quarter. Again, if you intentionally do not come to instead watch the Knicks – they will lose. Not my rules, just the way it is. I warned you. See you all at the show!”

Clearly, people turned up to Kevin Morby’s show at Brooklyn Steel which was happening opposite Game 4 of the NBA finals where the Knicks beat the Spurs in the final seconds, for a historic comeback. Backed by a band that included Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy back in the fold, Morby kicked things off with “Natural Disaster,” one of eight songs from new album Little Wide Open he’d play on Wednesday.

His set also included City Music ‘s title track, Sundowner ‘s “Wander,” Singing Saw ‘s “Destroyer,” a cover of Hamilton Leithauser’s “1000 Times,” and more.

Kevin and the band came back for a three song encore: “Dandelion,” “Beautiful Strangers,” and “Dorothy.”

After the show, Kevin Morby wrote, “Thankfully you all came to the show and so your Knicks pulled out a legendary comeback. Phew! Amazing show – amazing game. In a cab to Times Square right now with the band to play CBS Morning tomorrow bright and early (it’ll air at a later date). But the point is I❤️NY. Goddamn.”
