Sleep Reveals New Album and Tour Dates, Matt Pike Departs

Long-running stoner/doom greats Sleep are back but they look a little different. There’s a new lineup of the band with co-founder and guitarist Matt Pike  (of High on Fire) out of the band, leaving bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros as the sole original member.

Sleep’s new guitarist is Bubba Dupree of Void, and on drums is the very busy Dale Crover of Melvins and Redd Kross . Cisneros wished Pike, “the best on his earthbound maneuvers.”

The first new music from this new version of Sleep is “Have Spacesuit, Will Travel.” Says Cisneros, “The vibe of the first jam was obvious. It was blue sunglasses-era Iommi in the quality, and equally awesome is Bubba is also one of the coolest people I’ve been able to make music with.” Listen to below.

“Have Spacesuit, Will Travel” is available as a flexi disc single that comes with the special edition of first issue of the Sleep Comic Book which is being published through Third Man Books and as mentioned was written by Cisneros with illustrations by Dave Kloc and Arik Roper. Synopsis: “In the year 2420 a routine supply mission departs Earth. The Rosinante’s hull at capacity with highest grade heavy dry weight . . .”

Sleep have also announced a tour which includes an NYC show at Brooklyn Paramount on November 16 . Tickets for all dates go on sale Thursday, June 25 at 10 AM local time and you can see their full schedule below.
