Smidley (Conor Murphy of Foxing) Announces New LP, Releases “Capstone” Featuring Lucy Dacus

With his band Foxing on indefinite hiatus , Conor Murphy has announced a new album as Smidley . Murphy Horse , his third album under the moniker and the follow-up to 2022’s great Here Comes the Devil , is due out September 25 via Royal Mountain Records. He revealed the album on Wednesday night (6/24), when he threw out the first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals game, and he says, “These songs summarize a year of confusion and doubt where the only thing I was actually sure of is that I married the love of my life. Those two ideas were the basis for every song here.”

Murphy Horse has Foxing bassist Brett Torrence on guitar, Mitch Renfrew on bass, and Jack Middeke on drums, and was mixed by Joe Reinhart and mastered by Ryan Schwabe. It also features appearances from Lucy Dacus, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, Adam Schatz , and Brooks Tipton . Dacus sings on the first single, “Capstone,” and you can watch the video, which Murphy directed and edited, below.

Smidley have shows with Dacus (including Asbury Park, NJ’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on July 25 ) coming up this summer and with Ratboys in the fall, along with a few headlining shows. See all dates below.
