Soft Curse, featuring members of State Faults, to Release Debut LP of “Gloom Metal”
The new band Soft Curse has announced their debut LP, with the first single “Ghost Prism” exploring a unique blend of stoner doom, progressive, classic metal, and melodic emo sounds.
Last we heard from post-hardcore/screamo greats State Faults, they released their best album yet with 2024’s Children of the Moon , and now three members of that band are set to release the debut album by a newer, different-sounding band they formed called Soft Curse . The lineup includes State Faults vocalist/guitarist Jonny Andrew, guitarist Michael Weldon, and bassist Jef Overn, alongside drummer Dan Ford , and their debut album Liminal Ritual comes out on June 12. Lead single “Ghost Prism” is out now.
Recorded live with frequent State Faults collaborator Jack Shirley, “Ghost Prism” finds the band toeing the line between stoner doom, prog, classic metal, and melodic emo–if you can picture a cross between Circa Survive and Electric Wizard, you wouldn’t be far off. The band themselves call it “gloom metal.” The song comes with a video directed and edited by the band’s own Jef Overn, and you can check that out below.
