Imagine missing out on seeing the Spice Girls in the Nineties and now finally being old enough to have just enough money available on your credit card to buy reunion tour tickets, only to find out that, no, the Spice Girls ‘ big announcement was not a reunion but instead a compilation album. That’s what the internet is grappling with on yet another Spiceless Thursday.

“Negotiating with my husband on my price cap for Spice Girls tickets today was for NOTHING,” commented one fan on the group’s Instagram post announcing the comp.

“*puts credit card back in purse*” wrote another.

“Kids will eat tonight! Thought it was beans on toast for a month,” said a third.

“This was it?” balked yet another. “I literally was looking up part time jobs to buy tickets for tour.”

“Clocking this as the biggest let down of 2026 lol” said one fan. ( Rolling Stone’s politics team was unavailable for comment.)

The Spice Girls had been hyping, well, something on social media and greatly underdelivered. One fan thought the announcement of the compilation seemed like a marketing ploy to test the waters for a potential reunion, and if that’s the case, the demand is clearly there.

The group formed in 1994 and released its seven-times platinum debut, Spice , two years later. It was a worldwide smash thanks to “Wannabe,” “Say You’ll Be There,” and “2 Become 1” — all songs their fans won’t be hearing performed live anytime soon. Their next album, Spiceworld , came out in 1997, and was nearly as big thanks to “Spice Up Your Life” and “Too Much,” the latter of which is apparently too much for the women to agree to perform live anytime soon. And even Spice Girls’ final album, Forever , was a hit thanks to the single, “Goodbye,” a sentiment the quintet appears to be clinging to.
