The Avalanches have released a new song, “Together,” with speculation that a new album may not be far behind.

“Together” features Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss in a pastiche of samples and electronic melodies that play like the stuttering but pleasant memories of a floppy disk over a dance beat. The song strikes an emotional, dream-like tone midway through with the singer conjuring nostalgia through technology: “Staring at a picture on my phone/ Staring at a memory that’s old.”

Meanwhile, through teaser videos, Instagram posts, and a press release, the group is pushing people to takumiarchives.com , a retro-looking website that asks arcane questions until eventually allowing visitors to sign up by email for updates.

In the ramp up of to their previous album, We Will Always Love You, they deployed billboards directing people to a cryptic website with Morse code that gave clues to the release.

While the duo regularly put on shows, they release music more rarely. They appeared on Jamie xx’s single “All You Children” in 2024 and unveiled a reissue of their seminal 2000’s debut Since I Left You in 2021. Their latest studio release was 2020’s We Will Always Love You preceded by 2016’s Wildflower .
