Twins' Byron Buxton to Miss Season Following Hip Surgery

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton , who has been on the injured list since Aug. 30, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right hip and will miss the remainder of the season.

Buxton, a three-time All-Star, has been on the IL three times this season for hip issues.

He hit .254 with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs in 93 games this season. The oft-injured Buxton has played in less than 100 games in nine of his 12 seasons.

Buxton, 32, is expected to recover in time for spring training.

The Twins are in third place in the American League Central, six games behind the Chicago White Sox , with 16 games remaining in the regular season entering Friday's action. Minnesota in 4 1/2 games back in the race for the final AL wild-card spot, but there are three other teams ahead of them also on the outside looking in.
