The Manchester quartet and NME 100 alumni are set to release their highly-anticipated album on August 21 via Island Records, following the success of their EPs ‘This Better Be Great’ and ‘So Much Country ‘Till We Get There’.

“Put simply, we wanted to make an album for our younger selves, one that reminds us of all the bodies of work that made us fall in love with music,” the band said of their upcoming record. “We wanted the music to be instant, concise, and honest to us as people today.

“There will be plenty of time in the future for the sprawling triple album with horns and string sections but for now, it’s young music made by some young(ish) people,” they added. “We want to make songs that are lean and imperfect. We’re really proud of it and we hope that you enjoy it.”

To celebrate, they’ve shared the first teaser of the album, ‘Kick Stones (The Boys)’ – whose recording was inspired by a live version of The Velvet Underground’s ‘What Goes On’. “We loved the way it felt to play, but we thought we couldn’t record it like that or people would think we wanted to be a stadium rock band,” bassist/vocalist Aoife Anson O’Connell said of the song.

“We always thought, if we can pull this off it could be really fun,” drummer Paddy Murphy added. “Taking this mad, ‘70s rock thing but then having it played by a bunch of scrawny kids.”

NME spoke to the band for The Cover this February , where they told us about the makings of their debut single ‘I’ve Never Met Anyone I Thought I Could Really Love (Until I Met You)’.

“For us, Westside was all about bringing the fun back into the music generally,” vocalist/guitarist Reuben Haycocks said. “In a songwriting sense, we were taking everything a little less seriously. As soon as we stopped putting loads of pressure on ourselves to make something great, the stuff that came out was much more authentically us.”
