Another Planet Entertainment’s 2023 Golden Gate Park Concerts Generated $245M Economic Impact
A Bay Area Council Economic Institute study found that Another Planet Entertainment's 2023 Outside Lands festival and two other major concerts in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park generated $245.1 million in economic impact for the region.

A study commissioned by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute found that the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco and two other major concerts staged by promoter Another Planet Entertainment last year at the city’s Golden Gate Park generated $245.1 million in total economic benefit across the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, acting as “a large economic multiplier with jobs and tax benefits.”
“The report reflects what we strive to do every day – bring people together through amazing, cultural events that strengthen San Francisco and Bay Area communities,” said Allen Scott, President of Concerts and Festivals for festival producer Another Planet Entertainment. “The economic impact generated by these events is a testament to the strong partnership, commitment and dedication of San Francisco’s Mayor, San Francisco Recreation & Park Department, and the city agencies that help make them possible.”
The Institute’s report of direct and indirect spending by the 440,000 or so attendees over the duration of the three-day festival and other concerts found the events led to $193.1 million in economic benefit to San Francisco itself, 1,272 full-time equivalent jobs across the region, $110.4 million in wages paid and $32.5 million in state and local taxes.
“Outside Lands and the Golden Gate Park Concerts series showcase San Francisco on the world stage, drawing visitors from around the globe to experience these historic live events while strengthening the city’s cultural and economic vitality,” said Gregg Perloff, Another Planet Entertainment Co-Founder and CEO.
Across the three events, which included major concerts by Dead & Company and Zach Bryan, lodging accounted for roughly 29% of the economic activity, followed by onsite spending at the venue (24%) and offsite food and drink at (19%) of a total $128.7 million aggregated spend across the Bay Area.
The BACEI report , conducted through in-person sampling during each event and post-event digital surveys, also showed that the three event weekends generated 437,000 total event attendees, 112,800 hotel room nights in the Bay Area and $128.7 million worth of visitor spending in the SF Bay Area.
“San Francisco knows how to host big events and these numbers from our Summer of Music show how important they are for our local economy,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie. “Outside Lands and the Golden Gate Park Concerts series brought hundreds of thousands of people to our city, filled hotels, and showcased San Francisco to the world. As our city continues to rise, events like these help drive tourism, create jobs, and remind people why San Francisco remains one of the greatest cities in the world.”
