Bring Me the Horizon’s Oli Sykes Suffers Concussion After Fan Throws Phone Onstage

Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes is one of the latest artists who have been struck by objects thrown on stage by so-called fans, with the singer revealing that he suffered a mild concussion because of the injury.

The incident took place during the band’s show at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Monday.

Footage from the performance posted by crowd members online show Sykes being struck by the object and then saying, “Who the fuck just threw a phone at my fucking face?” He’s later seen touching the side of his head as if to check for blood.

On Tuesday Sykes posted an update via his Instagram story ahead of the band’s show at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, saying: “Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good. The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.

“Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half hearted performance.

“Appreciate everyone checking in and worrying about me though 🖤 Everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”

The Guardian reported that Eric Clapton was also recently hit by an object while performing when an audience member threw a vinyl album and struck him in the chest during a May 7 show in Madrid.

The publication added, “Other musicians have had to face similar incidents in recent years. Throwing objects on to the stage has almost become routine, and not necessarily as a way to voice disapproval with a concert: fans often attempt to give gifts or get stars to take photos with their phones.”

Riley Green was injured after a fan threw a phone on stage during a performance at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne in March, with photos showing blood dripping down the country singer’s face.

The Guardian notes that with concerts back in full force following the pandemic, 2023 saw a number of incidents with objects thrown on stage with artists affected including Bebe Rexha, Harry Styles, Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Kelsea Ballerini, Steve Lacy and Pink.
