Born Oliver Tree Nickell in Santa Clara, California, he kick-started his music career in 2010, self-releasing his music. He dabbled in ska and dubstep before releasing his EP Demon in 2013, which featured a Thomas Yorke-approved cover of the Radiohead hit “Karma Police.”

Tree dropped “Welcome to LA” in 2017, and it didn’t take long for the artist to take off on social media with his comedic sensibility, retro style and signature bowl haircut (which then evolved to a bowl mullet). He garnered over 16 million followers on TikTok and more than 3 million on Instagram with videos that featured self-deprecating sketches and humorous vlogs of the cities he visited.
Tree’s biggest hit, “Miss You,” amassed nearly 800 million streams on Spotify, and “Life Goes On” isn’t far behind with 708 million.
