First Trailer for Mike Flanagan's Stephen King's 'Carrie' Reboot Released
The debut trailer for Mike Flanagan's TV series reboot of Stephen King's "Carrie" has been unveiled, receiving a positive reception from fans.

The first trailer has dropped for Mike Flanagan’s TV reboot of Stephen King’s Carrie . Check it out below.
The new show marks the latest remake of the iconic Stephen King horror novel, and comes on the heels of four film adaptations – the first of which being Brian De Palma’s 1976 movie, and the last being the 2013 remake starring Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.
Now, Mike Flanagan [ Life Of Chuck and Doctor Sleep ] is taking on a television reboot, and it is set to start streaming on Prime on October 7.
The first trailer for the series is out now, and unlike some of the previous adaptations, it seems to bring the novel more into the modern world, with persistent bullying from her peers being largely accelerated by social media.
Carrie is played by Summer H. Howell, and others in the cast include Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Tota, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard.
Already, the new remake is dividing fans somewhat, with some questioning why another reboot is being made, and others loving how the remake will seemingly make the 1974 novel more relatable for a new generation.
“I love how this trailer went for a more melancholic and mournful tone rather than a horror or supernatural thriller one, because at the core of it all, Carrie’s story was very sad and tragic after all,” wrote one person on the Instagram comment section.
Another agreed: “On the one hand I was thinking, “Do we really need to remake EVERYTHING?”, but on the other hand its a generational story that is kind of valid whenever its shown. This looks like a good rendition that I’ll probably watch like the others.”
A third shared: “With each new generation, a new Carrie will always be important”, and someone else said that they hope above all else that the angle of the plot is true to the book: “All I ask for is a faithful adaptation of the novel. Carrie is not a hero, but rather a vigilante who tells the bullies what they are doing.”
An official synopsis of the show reads (via Empire ): “Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”
The project has been in the works since 2024 .
Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep scored a four-star review from Alex Flood, who wrote for NME: “For the most part, Doctor Sleep is a thrilling, nostalgia-fuelled ride that does its best to appease fans of the original, as well as those brought up on newer King flicks like Pet Sematary and It: Chapter Two … Doctor Sleep is a ripping yarn, no doubt, but it never quite steps out of its big brother’s shadow.”
