Foo Fighters Perform "Caught in the Echo" and "Window" on Colbert
Dave Grohl joined Colbert to discuss Nirvana, family, and 31 years of Foo Fighters, after the band performed "Caught in the Echo" and "Window."

Foo Fighters stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform two songs from their new album Your Favorite Toy : “Caught in the Echo” and “Window.”
“Caught in the Echo” came first, and it’s safe to say that Dave Grohl and co. were locked in and sharp as ever. The song’s interlocking guitars and pounding drums from Ilan Rubin made it a powder keg, and even in front of a studio audience and camera crew, that energy came through. The song especially popped off at the conclusion, where the bridge culminated in a furious, tom-heavy blitz from Rubin and a full band freakout.

They also performed the contemplative rocker “Window” as a bonus performance, a song that the group debuted during their intimate surprise show at New York City’s Irving Plaza last week. Though less visceral than “Caught in the Echo,” it’s still a warm, driving tune from the Foos, complete with some tight harmonies from Chris Shiflett and Nate Mendel. Watch both performances below.

Grohl also sat for an interview with Colbert during the show. He first touched on his decision to start Foo Fighters after Kurt Cobain’s death and the dissolution of Nirvana in the mid ’90s, going back through his oft-told tale of seeing a Kurt Cobain shirt somewhere on the coast of Ireland and realizing he had to push on and start again.

Grohl then discussed some aspects of Your Favorite Toy , including its title (which was originally For Good , though Wicked called dibs on that one) and hiding CDs of the album for fans to find. He also talked about reviving Nirvana with Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear last year, likening it to a comet coming around and exploding. Lastly, he touched on family, discussing his late mother Virginia and expressing excitement for his daughter Violet, who will unveil her debut album at the end of this month.
Foo Fighters have been busy the last few weeks. They unveiled Your Favorite Toy on April 24th and kicked off a brief run of shows in support of the album; revisit our review of their New York set from last week. They also appeared on the web show Track Star , going through some of their favorite rock and punk bands. The Foos will go even bigger this year with their “Take Cover” stadium tour , which properly kicks off in August. See their dates below and get tickets here .
