Kane Parsons Teases More “Backrooms” Content: “I’m definitely not done”
Director Kane Parsons confirms "Backrooms" was always envisioned as a series beyond the initial film, hinting at future installments.

Backrooms director Kane Parsons has teased the possibility of a sequel to his horror film.
The hit movie focuses on a furniture store owner (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who enters a parallel dimension of liminal spaces, as his therapist (Renate Reinsve) goes in search of him.
Based on YouTuber Parsons’ web series of the same name, Backrooms has become a critical and box office hit, taking in $118million (£87.64million) worldwide so far on a reported $10million (£7.43million) budget.
The director has now addressed the prospect of a follow-up in the wake of its success, admitting to Variety that he is “definitely not done” with the idea.
“Without a doubt, Backrooms has always been planned to be more of a series that goes outside the confines of this film,” he said. “If anything, I would say this is a bit of a foot in the door that would lead to more of a progression towards the true root of the narrative, which has been set up online for years.
“But a version that maintains accessibility and lets this be the way in. For people who are into it, I’ve got a contract, and I got a hold at my end, and that means I am definitely not done with Backrooms .”
Parsons added: “I’ve got very specific things that I’m working on, things are in the works right now that I am eager to be able to talk about, but, currently, it’s still in a secret mystery world.”
It comes after the director recently responded to speculation that he ghost directed the film, notably given his young age of 20.
Leaving a comic comment on YouTube, he wrote: “This is actually all true. They don’t tell you this, but 96 per cent of all movies released in North America and Europe are actually directed by the same person.
“They call him ‘The Older Gentleman.’ He has had all of Hollywood in a chokehold for decades now. They make you sign over all of your intellectual property, life rights, and genetic information to him when you enter the industry. He loves movies.”

Star Mark Duplass added a more serious comment in response to the rumours, sharing: “Hmmm, with all due respect I don’t remember seeing you on set. When I was there, Kane was 100 per cent in control. More so than many directors 3x his age.”
The director has also revealed that Backrooms was inspired by the cult game Portal , which allows players to create portals between two spaces that can be used to teleport objects or themselves.
In NME ’s four-star review of the film, we said: “ Backrooms vibes-based momentum won’t be to everyone’s taste. For some there’ll be too much explanation and for others, too little. But it’s an intriguing, memorable creation with the power to rattle, as Parsons lurks in the intersection between dread and delirium. Well worth exploring.”
