Wes Borland on Sam Rivers' Death: "We Lost a Piece of Our DNA"
Guitarist Wes Borland speaks candidly about the profound loss of his Limp Bizkit bandmate Sam Rivers, stating he is "very emotional" about Rivers' passing.

Last October, Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers suddenly passed away at the young age of 48. Roughly a half-year later, guitarist Wes Borland is still “very emotional” talking about his late bandmate, saying, “We lost a piece of our DNA.”
Heavy Consequence recently caught up with Borland to discuss his new Jackson King V KV signature guitar , and at one point the conversation focused on Rivers, and his memories of his longtime bandmate.

Borland, who hadn’t really spoken publicly about Rivers in the months that followed his passing, told us, “He was like family. I’m gonna try not to cry. It’s just like we lost a piece of our DNA. It’s too hard to talk about right now in depth.”

The guitarist’s emotion could be heard in his voice as he added, “He can’t ever be replaced. I mean, we’re so lucky for Richie [Buxton], who’s playing with us right now. He’s such a great player, and he’s just a wonderful guy, and we’re gonna hold onto him for as long as we can, ’cause he also plays in a band with his wife, Ecca Vandal, and they’re doing really great right now, and their career’s kind of blowing up. But we’re just gonna keep Richie for as long as we can and keep moving forward.”
Borland went on to say, “Sam is not a replaceable person. He was the heartbeat. It’s crazy talking about… very emotional talking about it. I think that last year when it happened, we were all kind of in shock, and now we’re all grieving.”
Limp Bizkit are currently playing the European festival circuit, and will return to the States for a series of festivals this summer and fall, including Summer of ’99 and Beyond , Inkcarceration , Louder Than Life , and Aftershock . Tickets are available here .
