A festival ticket is usually a pass to a site for a period of time rather than a seat at a performance. Most areas are general admission, so your view depends on when you arrive at a stage.

Passes can be single-day, multi-day or full-event, and some festivals sell tiered passes with additional access. Check which days and which areas your pass covers before you buy.

Many festivals issue a wristband or credential, sometimes posted in advance and sometimes collected on site with identification. Some wristbands are linked to a specific person or a cashless account.

Whether you can leave and return the same day is a festival-specific rule. Confirm entry, collection and re-entry terms with the festival before you travel.

Festivals run several stages at once, so clashes are normal and walking between stages takes time. Published schedules can change, and weather can move or shorten sets.

Some festivals offer on-site camping, sometimes as a separate purchase with its own rules on arrival times, vehicles and equipment. Others have no camping at all and rely on local accommodation and shuttles.

Bag size limits and lists of permitted and prohibited items are set per festival and per site, and they are commonly enforced at the gate. Rules on chairs, umbrellas, sealed water, food, medication and cameras all vary.

Check the current published list for your festival shortly before you travel, because these lists are updated between editions.

Festivals are largely outdoors and long. Sensible general precautions are to dress for a change in weather, protect yourself from sun, drink water regularly, wear footwear you can stand in all day, note where medical and information points are, and agree a meeting place with your group in case phones fail.

Follow instructions from festival staff, especially in dense crowds or severe weather. Decisions to pause, evacuate or cancel are made by the organiser and local authorities.

Minimum ages, accompanied-minor rules, accessible viewing platforms, accessible camping, medication policies and food and drink arrangements are all festival-specific.

Confirm each of these with the festival or the venue for your event rather than assuming another event's rules apply.
