The New York band closed out the Brockwell Park festival on Sunday night (May 31), and saw them use their set to bring out several surprise guests.
Kicking things off with fan-favourites like ‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’’ and ‘She’s My Man’, Scissor Sisters were joined by Belinda Carlisle to cover her 1987 hit ‘Heaven Is A Place on Earth’, before powering through a Pink Floyd cover and later welcoming Kelly Osbourne to join them in covering her 2005 track ‘One Word’.
McKellen then joined Jake Shears and co. to recreate his monologue from their 2010 single ‘Invisible Light’, before they wrapped their set with ‘Let’s Have a Kiki’, ‘Filthy/Gorgeous’, and ‘Music Is the Victim’.
Scissor Sisters’ Might Hoopla 2026 setlist was:
‘I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’’
‘Laura’
‘She’s My Man’
‘Tits on the Radio’
‘I Can’t Decide’
‘Heaven Is a Place on Earth’ (with Belinda Carlisle)
‘Take Your Mama’ (with Belinda Carlisle)
‘Only the Horses’
‘Any Which Way’
‘Comfortably Numb’ (Pink Floyd cover)
‘One Word’ (with Kelly Osbourne)
‘Invisible Light’ (with Ian McKellen)
‘Let’s Have a Kiki’
‘Filthy/Gorgeous’
‘Music Is the Victim’
While the band have not shared an album of new music since 2012’s ‘ Magic Hour ’, they did share a standalone single called ‘Swerlk’ with MNDR in 2017, as well as reissue their self-titled debut album in 2024, and follow that up with a ‘Deluxe Expanded’ version earlier this year.
They also supported Kesha on her recent run of across North American shows, and celebrated their 20th anniversary by heading out on tour and playing a huge slot at Glastonbury , once again bringing out McKellen as a special guest .
Previous special guests the band have brought out include Self Esteem , who joined them at London’s O2 Arena as part of a reunion tour that saw them performing their first live shows for 13 years last year.
Towards the end of 2024, singer Jake Shears and bassist Babydaddy also spoke to NME about the tour dates planned for 2025, and how it felt to be described by some as a “gay band”.
When asked if it “grated” them to have that label, Shears replied: “It did, yeah. I was looking at our straight counterparts, and, I had a bit of resentment that we sort of had this extra label that made it easier for some [people] to dismiss us. I think I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder about that.”
Babydaddy agreed, saying: “It’s a lot less loaded now, but in that moment, I think there was a question of, like, ‘Are people saying that to put [the band] in its own little box?’ I don’t really know what it was supposed to say, except that we were open about who we were, and there were some themes [in our music] that were definitely queer themes.”
The day before Scissor Sisters’ set at Might Hoopla, Lily Allen topped the bill, and was joined by JADE for the live debut of their new ‘Beg For Me’ remix .
