Slow Fiction Announce Debut Album ‘dollhouse,’ Share New Song “satellite”

New York indie rock band Slow Fiction have announced their debut album, dollhouse , out on August 7th via the new label Tight Knit. They’ve also revealed the project’s latest single, “satellite.”

The quintet, comprised of vocalist Julia Vassallo, guitarists Paul Knepple and Joseph Skimmons, bassist Ryan Duffin, and drummer Akiva Henig, self-produced their upcoming effort, with mixing by Sonny DiPerri. It follows their prior EPs — 2023’s self-titled and 2024’s Crush — and arrives on the back of support slots for bands like Wet Leg, Vundabar, English Teacher, and more. We named Slow Fiction an Emerging Band to Watch in 2025.

With a fuzzy backdrop and touches of jangle pop a la Alvvays and The Sundays, “satellite” is a short-but-sweet offering from the quintet. Vassallo sticks to her lower register throughout the track, which boasts a worn-in, rainy day feel. Though the song has a bit of hazy distance to it, the subject matter is a bit more urgent; Vassallo revealed in a statement that it’s about “selective empathy” and how we easily disengage from real world conflicts that make us uncomfortable. “I heard someone say recently that the price of community is occasional inconvenience; we’ve got to start considering community as more than just our own digital echo chambers,” she said.
