About the series

The Indianapolis 500 is run over 200 laps of the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend. Its scale is hard to overstate: the venue's permanent seating capacity makes race day one of the biggest single-day gatherings in sport.

The month leading into the race includes practice and qualifying days that are ticketed separately and are a substantially cheaper way to see cars on track. Qualifying weekend in particular has its own following.

Seating is spread around the full oval plus the infield, and the difference between a short-chute seat, a main straight seat and a general admission infield ticket is significant.

What to check before you buy

  • Practice and qualifying days are ticketed separately from race day.
  • Seating ranges from reserved grandstands to infield general admission.
  • Traffic and access on race day need real planning time.
