Major motorsports events

Permanent reference pages for the recurring championships in this sport. Each one explains how that event is run and what its tickets normally cover.

Series and disciplines

Stock car, open-wheel, Formula 1, motocross and monster truck events are all covered on this page. Provider events in each discipline classify into Motorsports.

What sits under motorsports

Motorsports covers several very different disciplines. Stock car and open-wheel racing run mostly on ovals and road courses in multi-day race weekends. Formula 1 and other international series use permanent circuits and street tracks. Motocross, supercross and monster truck events are staged inside stadiums and arenas and behave much more like a single-evening show.

A race weekend is usually built in stages: practice, qualifying and support races before the main event. Which of those a ticket includes is one of the most important differences between listings.

  • Oval, road course, street circuit and stadium events are not comparable venues.
  • Weekend tickets and single-day tickets are different products.
  • Support and feature races may run on different days.

Choosing where to sit at a race

Track scale changes everything. On a large oval, a grandstand seat gives a view of a long section of the circuit and the start-finish line; on a road or street circuit, most seats show one corner or straight in detail rather than the whole lap. General admission and hillside viewing exist at some events and not at others.

Parking, camping, paddock access and hospitality are sold as separate products by the event, and which of them exist varies from race to race. Treat any such extra as something to confirm on the specific event, not as a standard feature of motorsport tickets.

  • Check whether a listing covers the full weekend or a single day.
  • Grandstand views are section-specific on road and street circuits.
  • Outdoor races run in the weather; timing can move.
  • Seating layouts, permitted items and entry policies are set by each venue and each event, so check the official venue and event information before you travel.

Motorsports ticket questions

Does a race ticket include practice and qualifying?
Sometimes. Some events sell a weekend ticket covering every on-track day, others sell each day separately. Check exactly which day or days a listing covers.
Can I see the whole track from my seat?
Rarely. On large ovals a grandstand covers a long stretch of the circuit, while road and street circuits usually give a detailed view of one section only.
Are camping, parking and paddock passes included?
No. Those are separate products where an event offers them at all, and availability differs from race to race.
