Boards Of Canada Release "Introit" and "Prophecy At 1420 MHz" Ahead of New Album

Boards of Canada have revealed two new songs, “Introit” and “Prophecy at 1420 MHz,” serving as the first official offering from their upcoming album Inferno .

Serving as the opening two songs of the new album, “Introit” and “Prophecy at 1420 MHz” introduce the groovy, off-kilter world of Inferno . “Introit” begins with a nostalgic synth arpeggio and is akin to a machine powering up, blooming into focus and appropriately teeing up the next song as it dissolves into an ambient crawl. Then “Prophecy” flies in with a mid-tempo drum beat, roomy synths, and an ominous, ghosted vocal. Though Boards of Canada’s sound has thoroughly transformed over the last 25 years, the new music almost picks up where their last album, 2013’s Tomorrow’s Harvest , left off, with soundscapes and electronic rhythms meeting in strange harmony. Stream “Introit” and “Prophecy at 1420 MHz” below.

Inferno will arrive everywhere on May 29th via Warp Records. The Scottish duo have announced that they’ll be hosting seven special album premiere events, dubbed “The Inferno Sessions,” in Tokyo, Berlin, Barcelona, London, Glasgow, New York, and Los Angeles on May 22nd. Local record stores will also be hosting listening parties for the new album on May 28th. Stay updated on Boards of Canada’s official website for more information.

After cryptically teasing their return, the duo originally resurfaced in April to offer “Tape 05,” their first new music in 13 years; the song will not appear on Inferno . In the time since 2013’s Tomorrow’s Harvest , Boards of Canada returned intermittently to offer remixes , archival reissues , and an NTS DJ set for Warp Records’ 30th anniversary in 2019.
