Natalie Bergman Announces EP 'I Killed A North American Songbird,' Shares "White Oak"

Natalie Bergman from Wild Belle has been carving out a solo career in the 2020s. My Home Is Not In This World , her album for Third Man Records last year, presented an immensely pleasant blend of retro pop, soul, and folk sounds. It bodes well for I Killed A North American Songbird , the new EP she announced today — as if that title alone was not enough to pique your interest.

The five-song project will be out in a couple weeks. Bergman is teasing it today with a video for "White Oak," the opening track. Produced by Ben Lumsdaine, it's a woozy, off-kilter soul ballad, a song where retro sounds are manipulated in thoroughly modern ways. "Alone in the wilderness/ You were born to make beautiful things," Bergman sings. "We laid his body in the ground/ You played the melody on baritone."

Andreas Ekelund directed the "White Oak" video, which stars dancers Staz Lindes, Sandi Denton, and June Tate. Watch below.
