About the series
The Kentucky Derby is run on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs over a mile and a quarter, and it is the first leg of American racing's Triple Crown. The race itself lasts about two minutes; the day around it runs from morning to evening.
Ticketing here is unusually varied. General admission to the infield, reserved grandstand seats, clubhouse areas and hospitality are fundamentally different experiences at the same event, and the difference between them is much larger than at a typical stadium event.
The Friday card, the Kentucky Oaks, is a major race day in its own right and is ticketed separately.
What to check before you buy
- General admission, reserved seating and hospitality are very different products.
- The Friday Oaks card is a separate ticketed day.
- Dress and bag policies at the track are stricter than most venues.
