‘SNL UK’ Mocks Harry and Meghan’s England Return in New Skit

Saturday Night Live UK has poked fun at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s much-discussed return to England – check out the skit below.

Back in August, Markle and Prince Harry announced they would be moving back to the UK with their two children for an “extended period” after six years of living in California.

The announcement spurred speculation that Markle would be eyeing a return to acting, with reports emerging that she was in talks to join the third season of Netflix ‘s  The Gentlemen .

The couple’s return to England cropped up in last night’s (September 12) SNL UK episode, which saw Jeff Goldblum host the second season’s kickoff show, with CMAT serving as the musical guest.

The cold open began with Larry Dean’s King Charles II alongside Emma Sidi’s Queen Camilla at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, with Camilla quipping: “I do love our weekends away. No responsibilities, just like every other day.”

They’re later interrupted by the arrival Jack Shep’s Harry and Ayoade Bamgboye’s Meghan, who remain locked in a tight embrace throughout. This frustrates Charles, who furiously asks: “What do you two want? Don’t tell me you’ve spent that Netflix money already.”

“Daddy, it was $16 million,” replied Harry. “How long was it supposed to last?”. In a line that prompted a big reaction from the room, Charles fires back: “What a waste you’ve become, you’re lucky your father is not around to see this.”

Elsewhere in the skit, jibes were made about Meghan’s lifestyle brand. Upon giving an ice tray to Camilla, she declares: “I made it myself, I can give you the recipe. I’m a whizz in the kitchen,” to which Harry adds: “She hires the best chefs.”

It was recently confirmed that Stath Lets Flats star Jamie Demetriou will host next week’s (September 19) show, with Royal Blood taking to the stage. Following that episode, the September 26 show will see comedian and Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg front, with  Rachel Chinouriri  providing the musical entertainment.

The British spin-off of the long-running US sketch comedy show debuted on Sky One in March with former  SNL US  cast member  Tina Fey  as the host and  Wet Leg  as the musical guest. Since then, celebrities including  Jamie Dornan ,  Riz Ahmed , and Nicola Coughlan have hosted, while music acts have included  Kasabian ,  Foo Fighters , and  MEEK .

The show has received a generally warm reception, but has made headlines with its humour.  Earlier this year, cast member Ania Magliano responded to controversy surrounding her joke that drew comparisons between Mark Zuckerberg and Hitler , describing the tech billionaire as “fair game,” and said that she was “kind of detached” from any online criticism.
