A Brief History of the NFL

The league traces its roots to the American Professional Football Association, organized in Canton, Ohio, in 1920. Jim Thorpe served as the organization's first president, and the Akron Pros were recognized as champions of that inaugural season. The organization adopted the National Football League name in 1922.\n\nDecades later, the NFL and the American Football League agreed to merge. Their championship meeting began in January 1967 as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game and evolved into the Super Bowl. From 1970, the merged league operated with the American Football Conference and National Football Conference. Today, the NFL consists of 32 franchises.

How the NFL Is Organized

The NFL has 32 teams divided evenly between the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC). Each conference has four divisions—East, North, South and West—and each division contains four teams.\n\nDivision membership is central to the regular season because each team plays the other three teams in its division twice: once at home and once away. Those six games give familiar opponents repeated meetings and make divisional results an important part of the season. The existing team grid above lists every AFC and NFC division and links each club to its permanent OriginalTickets team page.

How the NFL Schedule Works

Each NFL team plays 17 regular-season games across an 18-week schedule, leaving one bye week. Six games come from home-and-away meetings with the other teams in its division.\n\nThe remaining matchups are built through rotating divisional and interconference scheduling, with additional opponents influenced by the previous season's standings. That structure balances recurring division games with a changing set of opponents. This guide deliberately does not publish a current schedule: future dates, opponents and event availability must come from verified live data.

NFL Stadiums and Game-Day Experience

No two NFL grounds feel the same. Some are open to the sky, some are domed or retractable, and seating bowls differ in how steeply they rise, how close the front rows sit to the sideline and how sound carries. Location matters too: a downtown ground reached by train reads very differently from a suburban site built around parking.

Because of that, supporters usually weigh several things together rather than one: the venue itself, the opponent, the city, the kickoff time, indoor versus outdoor conditions, the seating area, how they will travel and park, and the total price including fees.

Venue and city pages on OriginalTickets are permanent reference points for that comparison — for example Soldier Field, MetLife Stadium, SoFi Stadium and AT&T Stadium, or city pages such as Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Dallas. Full indexes live at venues and cities.

Choosing the Right NFL Tickets

The best seat depends on your preferred view, atmosphere and budget.

  • Lower Level Sideline

A closer, side-on perspective can make player movement and the near half of the field feel immediate, though the exact sightline changes by row and stadium.
  • Lower Level End Zone

This angle can emphasize plays developing toward or away from the goal line. Depth can be harder to judge at the far end.
  • Club & Premium Seating

Some stadiums attach indoor spaces, hospitality or other amenities to these areas, but inclusions vary and should be verified for the specific venue and listing.
  • Upper Level Sideline

A higher central angle can provide a broad view of formations and movement across the field. Distance and exposure vary by stadium.
  • Upper End Zone / Corner

These sections can combine a wider elevated view with a goal-line or diagonal angle. Compare the exact section, row and venue layout before choosing.

What Can Affect NFL Ticket Prices?

NFL ticket prices can change as circumstances and available inventory change. Relevant factors can include the matchup, rivalry interest, stadium and seat location, day and kickoff time, market demand, team performance, the importance of the game, and the number and type of listings still available as game day approaches.\n\nThere is no dependable rule that tickets always become cheaper or more expensive at the last minute. Live prices on OriginalTickets should come only from real provider inventory once the approved connection is available.

  • Matchup & rivalry

Familiar opponents and games with broader interest can attract different demand.
  • Stadium & seat location

Venue layout, level, angle, row and section can all affect how listings are valued.
  • Day & time

Travel convenience and kickoff timing can influence who is able to attend.
  • Demand & performance

Interest can shift with team performance and the size of the local or visiting audience.
  • Importance of the game

Playoff implications and season context can affect interest without guaranteeing a particular price direction.
  • Inventory near game day

Listings may be added, sold or withdrawn. Those changes do not guarantee that prices move in one direction.

NFL Playoffs and the Super Bowl

When the regular season ends, the clubs that qualify from each conference move into the postseason. They advance through conference rounds, and the AFC and NFC champions then meet in the Super Bowl, the league championship game.

Postseason football behaves differently from a regular-season fixture. Matchups are only known once earlier rounds are decided, interest is concentrated on fewer games, and how much inventory exists — and what it costs — can look very different from a September Sunday. We do not forecast any of that: postseason listings only appear here when verified games and inventory exist.

While the bracket is unknown, the permanent reference pages stay useful: browse NFL teams and venues, the wider sports index, or discover.

Planning an NFL Game Day

Check the details for the specific game and venue before leaving.

  • Kickoff date & time

Recheck the event details close to game day because timing information can change.
  • Stadium policies

Consult official team or venue information for current bag, entry, accessibility and prohibited-item rules.
  • Mobile-ticket requirements

Confirm how the ticket must be displayed, transfer it before arrival if needed, and make sure the device is charged.
  • Parking & transportation

Review the route, parking arrangements, public transportation and post-game exit plan in advance.
  • Weather

Check the local forecast and prepare for the stadium's actual exposure; conditions can vary sharply by city and season.
  • Arrival time

Allow time for transportation, security and finding the correct gate and section.
